Speed is just a number—until you make it visual.

In ShadowGPS, you don’t just track how fast your vehicle was going—you see it. Thanks to Speed Bands and Speed Limits, every trip can be color-coded to give you instant insight into how fast, how slow, and how smooth each drive really was.

Let’s break both of these down:

Speed Bands: Make Your Own Speed Zones

Speed Bands let you define your own speed ranges and assign colors to them. Want to see calm city driving in blue and high-speed highway cruising in red? Easy.

Here’s how it works:

  • You’ll always start with one default band: 0 to Max, with a single color.

  • Tap the add (+) button to split that range. For example:

    • 0–40 mph → Blue

    • 40–Max → Green

  • Once you add a new band, you can edit any except the last one. The last range always stretches from the final threshold to Max speed.

You can define up to 5 bands, adjusting each range with:

  • The slider, for quick edits

  • Or the + / – buttons, for precise control

Once you’ve got your colors and ranges dialed in, hit Save. Your trips will now display in beautiful, custom-coded segments on the map—making it easier to analyze driving behavior at a glance.

Speed Limits: Compare Against the Posted Road Speed

Speed Limit mode works a little differently. Instead of coloring your trip based on speed values, it compares your driving to the posted speed limits on the road.

Here’s how it works:

  • You set a threshold value (X) using a slider or + / – buttons.

  • If the posted speed is 50 mph and your threshold is set to 10, then:

    • Within Limit: 0–60 mph

    • Over Limit: 60+ mph

    • Under Limit: Below the posted speed

    • Unavailable: No speed limit data available for that stretch of road

Once you’ve picked your threshold and color codes, just hit Save, and your trips will instantly reflect this new logic on the map.

Why it’s worth it

Whether you're monitoring fleet compliance, optimizing for fuel efficiency, or just keeping your own driving in check, Speed Bands and Speed Limits give you a clear, color-coded picture of every trip.

No guesswork. Just insight—at a glance.
