Want a quick read on how good or bad a trip was? Meet your Trip Score.
Every trip in ShadowGPS comes with a simple, digestible score that summarizes how well it was driven. Whether you’re driving solo, managing a fleet, or just curious about your driving style—this score helps you see the full picture in one tap.
But what goes into that score? That depends on your device type: ShadowTrack (Non-OBD) or ShadowAuto (OBD).
For ShadowTrack (Non-OBD) Devices:
Your Trip Score is based on three factors:
1. Average Speed
We compare your average trip speed to a reference value based on typical traffic patterns.
If you’re within or below the expected average—great!
If you’re speeding consistently above it—your score takes a hit.
This encourages steady, predictable driving instead of flooring it just because you can.
2. Maximum Speed
If your max speed stayed under 75 mph, you’re in the clear.
If it went above that, we look at how often that happened.
A one-time burst? Not a big deal.
Repeated high-speed spikes? Your score reflects that.
3. Distance Driven
Longer trips are great—until they become a pattern of unnecessarily long routes.
Trips under 100 miles are scored fully.
Beyond that, the score gradually lowers based on how far you’ve gone—encouraging more efficient routing.
For ShadowAuto (OBD) Devices:
OBD devices get the full report card. You’ll be scored on everything from above, plus:
4. Idle Time
We compare how long your vehicle was idling versus moving.
Less idling means better fuel efficiency—and a better score.
A lot of time sitting still? Your score drops accordingly.
5. Harsh Braking
Slamming the brakes too often? That’s usually a sign of reactive or unsafe driving.
If your harsh braking events stay within a safe number, your score holds.
Exceed the limit? Your score dips to reflect the risk.
6. Rapid Acceleration
Flooring the gas may feel fun, but it’s not great for your fuel, your engine, or your score.
Like braking, there’s a healthy range.
Go overboard, and your score adjusts to match.
