Step 1: Purchase Your ShadowGPS Device
If you haven’t already purchased a device, visit our website (https://theshadowgps.com/) to select the device that’s right for you. You can choose between an OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) or a Non-OBD device.
Read our article on How to choose the most suitable device based on your use case.
Step 2: Download the ShadowGPS App
Once you’ve got your device, download the ShadowGPS app to get started. The app is available on both Android and iOS. You can find it on the Google Play Store(link) or Apple App Store(link). If you prefer, you can also use our web app(link).
Step 3: Sign Up or Log In
When you open the app, you’ll see a login screen that also serves as a signup page. You just need to provide your email address to begin. You can also use Google or Apple to sign in with one tap.
Once you’ve entered your email, we’ll send you an OTP (One-Time Password) to verify your identity. If you don’t see the OTP in your inbox, check your spam folder. If needed, you can click "Resend OTP" to get a new code.
Step 4: Complete Your Profile
After verifying your email, you’ll be asked to enter your name. You can also provide a mobile number, though it’s optional. If you do enter your mobile number, we’ll send you an OTP for verification.
Step 5: Add Your Device
Now, it’s time to add your ShadowGPS device to the app. You’ll need to give your device a name (e.g., “My Mazda Tracker”) and enter its IMEI number. The IMEI is a unique 15-digit number located on the back of your device.
You can either scan it using your phone’s camera or enter it manually.
Once you’ve submitted the IMEI, the app will recognize whether your device is an OBD or Non-OBD device and take you through the appropriate setup flow.
