Trip Start & End Alerts in ShadowGPS
Want to know exactly when your vehicle rolls out and when it calls it a day? The Trip Start and Trip End alerts in ShadowGPS are here to keep you in the loop without you constantly refreshing the app.
How It Works
Open Alert Configuration.
You’ll find Trip Start Alert and Trip End Alert, each with a neat toggle switch.
Flip them on to get notified when the trip begins and ends.
How We Know It’s a Trip
We’re not just guessing here—there’s solid logic behind what defines a trip:
For ShadowAuto (OBD):
A trip starts when the device sees ignition ON for 30 seconds.
A trip ends when ignition is OFF for 5 minutes.
For ShadowTrack (Non-OBD):
A trip starts when speed crosses 3 mph (or 5 km/h) and stays there for 30 seconds.
A trip ends when the device is stationary for 5 minutes.
Basically, no jumpy alerts for moving in your driveway.
The Fine Print (a.k.a. “Good to Know”)
Trip End alerts are intentionally delayed by 5 minutes—because sometimes your car just needs a breather.
Lost network during the trip? No worries:
If your device loses signal mid-trip, you might get an early trip end alert.
But the moment it reconnects, shadowGPS pulls in the missing data and updates your trip timeline accurately—without triggering another Trip End alert.
Your full trip history is preserved, even if part of the journey was in a network dead zone.
Why It’s Useful
Ideal for parents, fleet managers, or the mildly paranoid car enthusiast.
Helps keep tabs on trip frequency, duration, and movement, minus the guesswork.
Keeps your timeline clean, accurate, and smart enough to know when to notify—and when to wait.
With ShadowGPS, you’re never left in the dark about when your car hits the road—or takes a nap.
