Monitoring Idle Time Effectively

If you want to track when, where, and how long your vehicles idle, ShadowAuto (OBD) helps you monitor and analyze it easily.

1. View Idle Time in Dashboard (Analytics)

From the Dashboard screen, you can monitor idle activity along with other driving insights.

  • Under the Drive section, you’ll find charts showing Overall Distance, Travel Time, and Idle Time.

  • You can use the filter icon to select a single day or up to 3 consecutive days and view hourly-level data about your driving.

This view helps you understand idle patterns across your vehicles and identify when idling occurs most frequently throughout the day.

2. Check Idle Time at Trip Level

From the Trip Timeline, tap on any Trip (Driving) and select Trip Details.
Here, under Stats, you’ll see the Idle Time recorded for the entire trip — not individual idle instances.
This helps you assess how much total idle duration occurred during a particular journey, though it won’t pinpoint each idle stop individually.

3. Receive Idle Event Notifications

If you’ve enabled Idle Alerts in your notification settings, you’ll automatically receive an alert when a vehicle idles beyond your configured threshold (for example, after 10 minutes).
These alerts help you take quick action in real time — especially useful for fleet owners looking to minimize fuel waste or improve operational efficiency.

4. Replay the Route — Using Play Trip

You can also use the Play Trip feature to visually review your trip.
Play, pause, or move along the trip timeline to see how the vehicle moved — and exactly where the idle periods occurred on the map.
This is a great way to correlate map data with driving patterns and idle behavior.

By using these options Dashboard analytics, Trip Details, Idle Alerts, and Trip Playback you can easily monitor, analyze, and reduce unnecessary idling across your vehicles with ShadowAuto (OBD) and other compatible devices.
